CMAA’S Co-Owner & Chief Instructor GM Anthony Hockley has been training in the martial arts since 1979. He holds multiple black belts ranks (and black belt equivalent ranks) in many martial arts styles including Kenpo, Ju-Jitsu, Judo, Kali-Silat and many more. In April 1998 he decided to further expand his knowledge so he contacted Australia’s first Machado Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt Prof. John B. Will, set up the first BJJ seminar in Adelaide, South Australia and started training together. Years passed with Anthony having to overcome many of life’s obstacles during his training journey. He stopped and started training in BJJ many times while focusing on other martial arts styles. But finally he prepared himself physically and mentally in 2023 to test for his black belt, after spending 9 years on his brown belt. On 13th June 2023, in Dallas, Texas, USA; Anthony tested in a private grading under his personal instructor, one of the BJJ Worlds leading instructors Master Carlos Machado, 8th Degree Coral Belt at his International Headquarters. His partner for the one and a half hour physical test was Prof. Brad Scott, who helps run CMJJA HQ school. His grading was witnessed by his wife Kelly Hockley. To be trained and tested personally by Master Carlos Machado who is the oldest of the famous five Legendary BJJ Experts ‘The Machado Brothers’ those being Carlos, Roger, Rigan, Jean Jacques & John, who are a part of the Gracie Family, was not only a huge honour, but one of Anthony’s highlights in his martial arts career. After testing for his black belt, he spent the next three days training at the Machado Brothers Training Camp, also in Dallas Texas. During the camp he had the opportunity to train with, and learn the Machado BJJ secrets from Carlos, Roger, Rigan & John. This was a very intense training camp, being both mentally draining and physically exhausting, but was such a wonderful experience learning so much BJJ knowledge from world leaders in the art. GM Anthony has now brought back this knowledge to share with his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) Family at Crocodile Martial Arts Australia.
