I started martial arts when I was 6 years old because I was having a hard time at school. I agreed straight away because I wanted to be able to do what I saw the power rangers and ninja turtles doing on tv. From what started 13 years ago as something my parents made me do turned into a life time hobby that I love. It’s also fun knowing what style of martial arts they are doing in movie action/fighting scenes.
I started teaching martial arts because I was asked if I’d like to by Kancho Anthony and my friend Sensei Cassidy was doing it. Once I started, I was hooked, and it really grew on me. Now even when I’m not teaching but still training for myself, I am still helping people on the mats.
One of the best things about teaching is seeing either the kids or adults finally get something that you have been teaching and they have been struggling with. You can see something just clicks in them and the happiness and satisfaction that this brings them. When teaching you have to really know what you’re doing, so it helps my training and the better I know something the better I can teach it. It’s kind of like a loop that helps everyone get better.
